Friends with Guns and Badges
My wife and I were vacationing in another state recently when we encountered the traffic jam from hell. I mean, it was gridlock for a half hour at a time, move ten feet, and sit another half hour.
It was hot, it was muggy, the police were desperately trying their best, people were cursing at them (and each other) -- it was just a really bad scene. On a whim, I rolled down my window when we passed one of those officers, held out a GOOHF card and said, "Hi. I think you could probably use this!" He looked at it, looked at me for a long moment ...and started laughing. "Mister", he said. "You have NO idea!!"
We chatted for a few moments, and ended up parking behind his squad car beneath a shade tree at his invitation while the mess sorted itself out. Meanwhile, other officers who wandered by also wanted a card. My cards turned a bum day into something bearable, and we made a few new friends along the way. Thanks!!!
